A 25-year-old male suspect, who was burglarizing a house in rural Washington state, encountered the 75-year-old male household resident and turned on the elderly man and began stabbing him.
The elderly man’s 80-year-old wife heard the commotion, armed herself and shot the intruder.
The 80-year-old woman then called 911. Sheriff spokeswoman, Shari Ireton, said “she had shot an intruder after he broke into her home and stabbed her husband.”
The elderly man was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen. He was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center and was reported to be in stable condition.
The deceased suspect was not known to the elderly couple or to their 45-year-old son who was in the house at the time of the intrusion. Neither the elderly woman nor the son sustained any injuries.
The Major Crimes Unit detectives were collecting information to identify the intruder.
