Ronald Gasser, the man accused of gunning down ex-Jets running back Joe McKnight, was released from police custody without charges, according to a report.
The NYPost reports,
Ronald Gasser, 54, who allegedly shot dead the 28-year-old former NFL star Thursday afternoon in an apparent road-rage incident outside New Orleans, was questioned and released “sometime overnight,” TMZ reported, citing a rep from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department.
The rep told TMZ that Gasser “definitely” shot the USC Trojan star, but there are “questions about the circumstances surrounding what led up to it.”
The investigation into the incident is ongoing and the case could go to a grand jury or the district attorney’s office, which will decide if Gasser is hit with charges, the rep said, according to TMZ.
McKnight, who authorities said was unarmed, was standing outside his vehicle when Gasser pumped him with several bullets, said Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand.
