American Exceptionalism isn’t a statement of pride; it’s a verifiable statistic. Watching Democrats and even Donald Trump mumble through their misunderstanding of this phrase makes those of us who know what it means catch our breath in revulsion.
Put simply, American Exceptionalism means of all the countries that have ever existed in world history, the United States of America is the only one that started with the acknowledgement that man is born with inalienable rights, rights granted us by God Himself.
The Constitution didn’t grant us these rights. The states didn’t. Your local councilman didn’t. All the Constitution did was formally codify these rights, state that we inherently own them upon our birth and citizenship, and declare unequivocally that government cannot take them away without due process. That’s the exception. We are the only country founded on this principle.
So this isn’t pride, it’s fact. When Barack Obama or Donald Trump claim Britain believes in its own exceptionalism, or that the Russian people may get offended if we say we’re better than they, both of them are revealing a large and dangerous lack of knowledge about how our country works.
Tell me: Since freedom isn’t a swell idea that was introduced to us a few generations ago but is in fact an inherent right, what do our elite overlords think is going to happen when they try to take away a big one? A number of individual liberties have been stripped already. We are no longer free to practice our religion (refusing services for gay weddings) and we’re being prosecuted for our speech (subpoenas for opposing man-made global warming). I’m sincerely surprised there hasn’t been an armed revolution so far. But what’s going to happen when these evil people try to take away our guns?
