With John Kelly on his way out of the White House, Anthony Scaramucci is taking a victory lap with news of the demise of the man who ousted him from the White House after just 11 days.
In an appearance on CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time,” Scaramucci said that hiring Kelly’s to replace Reince Priebus in the first place was a mistake.
“He misfired with his two chief of staff selections”, Scaramucci said. “I mean, that’s just the honest truth about the whole thing.”
Scaramucci made clear that he respected Kelly’s military service, but as for the retired Marine’s time in the White House, the former communications director wasn’t impressed.
“Yes, I do think it was a mistake because he didn’t have the right personality to deal with President Trump, he didn’t have the right personality or way to handle a civilian culture inside the White House,”he added.
One of Kelly’s first moves after joining the administration as chief of staff was to oust Scaramucci, who had been named communications director just days earlier. And if Scaramucci’s latest interview is any hint, there’s still plenty of bad blood there:
“And by the way, he said he was humiliated today, well how do you think I felt on the first day when he fired me? You know, you just don’t have to fire people like that, it’s just nonsensical.”
Scaramucci argued that he should have been given the opportunity to make a quiet departure from the White House at a later date if Kelly was so displeased with his behavior. Instead, Scaramucci was out the door after eleven days and quickly became the butt of countless jokes across the country.
“You don’t fire people like that,” Scaramucci told Cuomo. “And so that was indicative of the way he was going to handle the 17 months that he was in the job.”
