Portland Police Officer Jakhary Jackson offered his perspective as a Black police officer during the Black Lives Matter protests that rocked Portland for 50 days.
Officer Jackson said he was disgusted by people calling his white fellow officers racists without knowing anything about them.
He also said, “It says something when you’re at a Black Lives Matter protest and you have more minorities on the police side than you do in a violent crowd. And you have white people screaming at Black officers.
Officer Jackson is a member of Portland police’s rapid response team during the violent protests. He said what he’s seen has been downright “frightening” on the streets of Portland. Jackson graduated from Portland State University with a history degree.
The nine year veteran of the department said, “You have white people screaming at black officers, ‘You have the biggest nose I’ve ever seen.’ You hear these things and you go, ‘Are these people, are they going to say something to this person? No.’”
