China bashed President-elect Donald Trump’s use of Twitter this week in a commentary published by the country’s official news agency, CNN reported Thursday.
From The Hill
“The obsession with ‘Twitter diplomacy’ is undesirable,” the commentary on Xinhua’s Website said.
“It is a commonly accepted that diplomacy is not a child’s game — and even less is it business dealing. As former United States Secretary of State [Madeleine] Albright said, Twitter should not be a tool for foreign policy,” the commentary continued.
The agency is the largest and most influential of China’s state-run media.
Earlier this week, Trump hit China on Twitter for not doing more to rein in North Korea.
“China has been taking out massive amounts of money & wealth from the U.S. in totally one-sided trade, but won’t help with North Korea. Nice!” Trump said.
Trump’s relationship with China is off to a rocky start. China criticized Trump for accepting a phone call with Taiwan’s president, which some viewed as jeopardizing the “one China” policy.
The U.S. has not formally acknowledged Taiwan’s independence as part of the “one China” policy.
