CNN’s Erin Burnett Gets Bent Out Of Shape Over Trump Joke About Melania’s Salads [VIDEO]

January 15, 2019 by Susan Jo

Two left-wing political commentators with CNN complained about President Donald Trump’s alleged sexism Monday over a joke he’d made earlier in the evening to the players of the Clemson Tigers college football team.

BPR reports:

Following the team’s recent victory in the College Football Playoff National Championship, the president took to Twitter to invite the team to the White House to celebrate.

I look forward to hosting, right out of the great State of South Carolina, the 2019 NCAA Football Champion Clemson Tigers at the White House on Monday, January 14th. What a game, what a coach, what a team!

During the start of the celebration early Monday evening, the president joked that due to the ongoing government shutdown, the White House’s cooking staff wasn’t available to prepare a meal. As a result, he’d been unsure whether to offer the players food or follow his predecessor’s lead and serve nothing.

“So I had a choice: Do we have no food for you? Because we have a shutdown, or do we give you some little quick salads that the first lady will make, along with — along with the second lady, they’ll make some salads,”he quipped, referencing his wife, first lady Melania Trump.

“And I said, you guys aren’t into salads, or do I go out, Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, do I go out and send out for about 1,000 hamburgers. Big Macs. So we actually did that.”

This joke was enough to trigger CNN left-wing political commentators Joan Walsh and Erin Burnett.

Observe their reaction below:
“That’s appalling,” Walsh lamented. “It seems to me like the president will not be happy until there is not one single female Republican voter in the country. It’s incredibly sexist.”

It’s unclear what she meant, since support for Trump among women hasn’t dropped but rather has “remained stagnant,”according to a Gallup poll cited by Walsh’s own employer last May.

Walsh also accused the president of demeaning his daughter Ivanka by referring to her as the “second lady.” Burnett, who last year attacked Melania for defending her husband against criticism, concurred.

“Sometimes what people say when they’re being funny exposes exactly who they are and what they think. Not that there was any question, but this is pretty clear,”she opined.

Conservative commentator Scott Jennings disagreed.

“I certainly didn’t take his comments to be sexist. I think that if somebody took them that way, you know, that’s fine …,”he said, inspiring outrage from Burnett.

“How in the world can you not perceive that as sexist, to make the assumption that his wife will go make salads for a bunch of football players? What is she, the cook?” she angrily probed.

Jennings noted that given that he himself prepares a salad every single night, he detected no sexist connotation in Trump’s joke, adding that perhaps Burnett and Walsh were “over-reading it.”
CNN’s left-wing commentators have a track record of “over-reading” everything.

“I’m not over-reading it. He made a joke that was sexist about woman,” Burnett replied. “I guess maybe what we’re disagreeing with is whether it’s funny and whether humor is something that’s serious.”

“I feel pretty strongly it’s a sexist thing to say,”she concluded shortly thereafter.

Social media users — some of whom clearly aren’t even fans of the president — seem to disagree:

Look:

@ErinBurnett You really need to chill Erin. What’s wrong with serving fast food to a football team during a shutdown? How the hell is that sexist? Meanwhile Dems lived it up this weekend in PR. Now, who looks worse? Duh…

@ErinBurnett 😂 YES I AM A TRUMP SUPPORTER. YES, I WILL FIX MY HUSBAND A SALAD OR WHATEVER HE WANTS. NO, ITS ONLY SEXIST TO A MAN HATING FEMINIST. #FIXMEASANDWICH

@CNN and @ErinBurnett Usually I agree with you on Trump sexist remarks but today’s comments on the salads vs hamburgers was just a bit of tongue in cheek about the fact that most FB players like meat. Nothing more. Shouldn’t have even been broadcast. Totally unnecessary.

@ErinBurnett You need to lighten up. Everything is either sexist or racist with you no sense of humor #liberals.

— RG Buntster (@BUNTSTERMANIA2) 15 January 2019

@ErinBurnett @CNN I don’t like Trump at all, but claiming that he was being “extremely sexist” by making a joke about Melania making salads for football players instead of burgers is a ridiculous overreach and does no favors for the gender equality movement.

@ErinBurnett I’m not a trump fan, but there was nothing sexist about him asking the First Lady to make a salad. Actually agree with @ScottJenningsKY . actions like that are what kill it for the moderates.
