“They don’t call us ‘women’ anymore,” she wrote, “they call us ‘birthing people’ or menstruators,’ and even ‘people with vaginas’! Don’t let them erase you! every human on earth owes you!” She wrote. The language she critiqued has been adopted by leftists, including those who identify as feminists, in order to be more inclusive of both women who call themselves men, and men who call themselves women but neither give birth nor menstruate, and likely don’t have vaginas.
Bette Midler sparks debate by saying trans-inclusive language erases women https://t.co/d4U1R2vqyT pic.twitter.com/obrWluPMjt

WOMEN OF THE WORLD! We are being stripped of our rights over our bodies, our lives and even of our name! They don’t call us “women” anymore; they call us “birthing people” or “menstruators”, and even “people with vaginas”! Don’t let them erase you! Every human on earth owes you!

Are the trans activists going to come hard for Bette Midler now? She’s erasing all your intersectional gains toward erasing women! ?
— libby emmons (@libbyemmons) July 4, 2022
Mate don’t fall for this word game nonsense 🙁
Trans people just want the same rights you want
— Katy Montgomerie ? (@KatyMontgomerie) July 4, 2022
No. Don’t fall for the anti-trans panic fake nonsense. No one is erasing women. In a few small healthcare cases where appropriate they are using trans inclusive language. That’s all.

NO ? ONE ? IS ? SAYING ? YOU’RE ? NOT ? A ? WOMAN ? OR ? THAT ? YOU ? CAN’T ? CALL ? YOURSELF ? THAT ?
YOU ? ARE ? BEING ? ASKED ? TO ? ACKNOWLEDGE ? THAT ? NOT ? EVERYONE ? WITH ? A ? VAGINA ? CALLS ? THEMSELVES ? A ? WOMAN ?

many folks use that language to be more inclusive of trans masculine people – when you ignore the fact that trans men can get pregnant, it can lead to them missing vital medical help (e.g being called in for smear tests)
— Jeepers Creepers (@HugoTweetsStuff) July 4, 2022
What words would you use to be inclusive with the transmen who still have uteruses and can get pregnant?
— twistedchick (@twistedchick) July 4, 2022
Inclusiveness is not erasure. Please do better.
— (((mamagrainne))) ?????????????? (@mamagrainne) July 4, 2022
“people who can give birth” includes me, a nonbinary person and (i’m assuming) doesn’t include you, a post menopausal cis woman. if people who can give birth were referred to only as ‘women’ it would include you and exclude me incorrectly
it does not harm you to be inclusive

Really disappointed in this as a trans man and a Bette Midler fan.
Bette, including trans men in the conversation about reproductive health does not harm women. We have the same organs, and even greater vulnerability, as cis woman.

You go, girl!!!

Brilliant, Milli. And you are my hero as well, Bette. Thank you for standing tall with us.

YES! People who want to redefine the name for our body type to mean a stereotyped gender norm are just forcing stereotypes on the rest of us. We’ve fought against that for decades. We NEED a name to speak about, research and advocate for the distinct needs of women.

Thank you, Bette. Please also dig into the child abuse of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones being given to children, in addition to the thousands of double mastectomies performed on girls.
