Three days before the inauguration, a former “Apprentice” contestant has sued Donald Trump for defamation, saying the president-elect publicly called her out as a “liar” after she accused him of “unwanted sexual touching.”
The NYPost reports,
Summer Zervos, a former contestant on Season 5 of “The Apprentice,” alleges in the Manhattan suit that Trump made “false factual statements to denigrate and verbally attack” her after she publicly accused him of kissing and groping her at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.
She claims Trump “immediately lied” when he said he’d never met her at a hotel or “greeted her inappropriately,” according to the lawsuit.
At the time, Trump decried all accusations of sexual misconduct against him as being “100 percent, totally and completely fabricated.” The then-candidate called his accusers “liars,” and vowed to sue them after the election was over.
“This lawsuit seeks to make Donald Trump accountable for the significant damage he has caused Ms. Zervos – a woman who had the fortitude and courage to come forward and speak truth to power, so that the nation would be informed about the true Donald Trump,” the court papers say.
During a press conference with lawyer Gloria Allred on Tuesday, Zervos said she asked Trump to retract his statements calling her a liar in November.
“I also called upon him to state that what I said about his behavior towards me was true,” she said. “More than two months have gone by and he has not issued that retraction.”
Zervos called on Trump to retract his comments, insisting the lawsuit would then disappear.
“I would like to be mistaken and instead have the President-elect decide that he’s going to do the right thing in reference to Ms. Zervos,” Allred said.
“As she indicated, if he will simply retract and acknowledge his conduct with Ms. Zervos, she will dismiss the lawsuit not seeking any damages nor will she seek attorney’s fees. That’s all that it will take.”
In the lawsuit, Zervos said she wanted to come forward with her story after listening to the hot-mic recording from Trump’s 2005 appearance on “Access Hollywood,” when he was caught bragging that he grabs women by the genitals and tried to have sex with married women.
“For the first time, Summer Zervos saw Mr. Trump’s behavior towards her for what it was: that of a sexual predator who had preyed on her and other women,” the lawsuit alleges. “She realized that she was just one of many women who had been victimized by Mr. Trump’s predatory conduct.”
