Republican Rudy Giuliani, a former mayor of New York, hammered Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Sunday for her latest response to the email controversy that has plagued her campaign.
Clinton said on Friday that she may have “short-circuited” when she claimed in a recent interview that FBI Director James Comey said she was “truthful” about her use of a private email server as secretary of state.
Speaking Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Giuliani scoffed at Clinton’s statements.
“She lied,” he said. “She didn’t short-circuit. She lied last week when she said the FBI found that she hadn’t lied. You read Comey’s report, he found she lied in about eight different places. So maybe short-circuit is her euphemism for lying,” said Giuliani, who is also a former U.S. attorney.
During Comey’s July 7 testimony before the House Oversight Committee, the FBI director contradicted several of Clinton’s public statements, including whether she had sent emails marked classified and whether there was, in fact, “classified material” on her server.
Clinton will continue to face attacks about her emails from Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, Giuliani said.
“You’re going to see him hitting Hillary very hard,” he said. “That, you know, she short-circuited? That was a heck of a comment.”
