In America, it doesn’t matter how big you are—it doesn’t matter if you’re a female who a much larger or stronger male can easily overtake. A good guy (or gal) with a gun can make the difference between a mass shooting or a failed attempt at a mass shooting. A gun in the hands of a good person that is used for protection is the ultimate equalizer.
On Wednesday night, Dennis Butler met his fate when he entered a graduation party with an AR-15 and began shooting indiscriminately into a crowd of dozens at a graduation party near the Vista View Apartment complex. He was killed by a female who is also a lawful gun owner.
Investigators said Butler was warned about speeding in the area with children present before he left. He later returned with an AR-15-style firearm and began firing into the crowd before he was shot and killed.
“Instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat and saved several lives last night,” Charleston Police Department Chief of Detectives Tony Hazelett said.
Officers did not go into detail but said Butler did have an extensive criminal history.
Hazelett said no charges would be filed against the woman.

Things can go very badly when a criminal with bad intentions is in possession of a legal or illegal deadly weapon. Still, as evidenced by this story and tens of thousands of others just like it, all it takes is one good, law-abiding, gun-carrying citizen to remove the threat when law enforcement isn’t present.
