Former U.N. ambassador John Bolton offered up a theory on Russia’s reported hack of the Democratic National Committee.
Bolton, who was reportedly one of President-elect Donald Trump‘s top picks for Secretary of State, initially said there should be “grave consequences” if Russia did interfere with the election, as the CIA concluded in a Washington Post report last week.

But he questioned the facts, in an appearance on Fox News, and raised a question about President Obama’s role in what could be a “false flag” against Russia.
“It is not at all clear to me, just viewing this from the outside, that this hacking into the DNC and the RNC computers was not a false flag operation,” he told Fox News host Eric Shawn on Sunday.
Shawn pressed Bolton about his use of the term “false flag,” calling it a “very serious charge,” and asked if he was accusing someone in the administration of fabricating the whole thing.
“We just don’t know,” Bolton responded. “But I believe that intelligence has been politicized in the Obama administration to a very significant degree.”
