In a perfect encapsulation of the hypocrisy of Democrats, who lecture the nation about civil rhetoric while hitting Republicans, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., called Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., “a moron” before a group of reporters.

In effect, more of the same: rules for thee, but not for me.

McCarthy was critical of the Capitol physician recommending that masks be worn indoors Tuesday after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revised its guidelines to call on vaccinated people to wear masks indoors in high-risk areas.

The GOP leader tweeted Tuesday night: “Make no mistake — The threat of bringing masks back is not a decision based on science, but a decision conjured up by liberal government officials who want to continue to live in a perpetual pandemic state.”

After calling her GOP counterpart a moron, Pelosi announced from the House floor that “all members and staff that masks will be once again be required in the Hall of the House. However, members will be permitted to remove their masks temporarily while under recognition.”

The irony of Pelosi not wearing a mask herself while spouting her talking points not lost here.

McCarthy wasted little time in responding — with logic, reasoning and facts, which assures he will not get an answer to the questions he posed in his reply.

“If she’s so brilliant, can she tell me where the science in the building changes between the House and the Senate?” he asked, according to Fox News reporter Chad Pergram.

“Can she explain to me when the CDC says only vaccinated people need to wear a mask in hotspots? Can she explain to me that DC is a hotspot? When it’s clarified by everybody else it’s not with more than 86% of vaccination within here,” McCarthy further asked. “Can she explain to me the less than 1% affected there. So it’s a lot of questions if she knows so much science explain to me where the science changes in the Rotunda.”
