‘Kellyanne, come on. They are running for president, of course she’s going to hit him with negative ads,’ the Fox anchor said
Megyn Kelly and Donald Trump’s campaign manager Kellyanne Conway got into a fierce debate about the presidential nominee’s treatment of women.
In an interview that aired on Wednesday night, Conway had moaned that Hillary Clinton was targeting Trump with negative ads and using comments he made about women ‘25 years ago’.
But Kelly pointed out that it’s perfectly acceptable for candidates to ‘hit’ each other.
And she noted that Clinton’s ads use Trump’s own words and included disparaging remarks that he has made recently, including during the course of his campaign.
‘Kellyanne, come on. They are running for president, of course she’s going to hit him with negative ads,’ the Fox anchor responded.
‘The ads that he’s running about him, when it comes to his comments on women, use his words, Kellyanne.’
Kelly added: ‘You raised the question, he made a couple of comments over 25 years ago.
‘You know that’s not true. You know he has repeatedly made comments about women, about their looks, about their size, their weight.
‘Even in this campaign, talking about Carly Fiorina’s face, re-tweeting a negative picture about Heidi Cruz’s face, criticizing Hillary Clinton in her look.
‘And Kellyanne, this is an issue for him, is it not?’
‘But is that the campaign issue that Hillary Clinton is running on? The answer seems to be yes,’ Conway responded.
She blasted Clinton for spending tens of millions of dollars on negative ads instead of coming up with an aspirational, positive vision.’
Kelly replied: ‘Because she’s killing him with women and she sees an advantage there and she’s trying to exploit it.’
Kelly also said: ‘My question to you is whether he needs to come up with a better answer than telling ‘Fox & Friends’ well, she gained a bunch of weight when she won Miss Universe and she was a real problem.’
