Filmmaker Michael Moore predicted Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will beat Hillary Clinton in the upcoming election.
“I’m sorry to kind of have to be the buzzkill here so early on, but I think Trump is going to win,” said the progressive pundit during a live airing of “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Wednesday at the Republican National Convention to a negative response from the audience.
Maher defended Moore telling the crowd, “Boo if you want, I am glad you are saying it. Everybody should say that. The enemy is complacent. Say it everyday. I certainly think he could win.”
Moore, who once endorsed Bernie Sanders, previously said he would support Hillary Clinton if she is the Democratic candidate for president.
Though Trump may appear ridiculous to him and fellow progressives, Moore warned that we have been “sitting in our bubble having a good laugh at this whole s—-show, but the truth is this plays to a lot of people that he has to win to become the next president.”
Moore said he believed that the Trump campaign would imitate the Brexit strategy, arguing that many of the white working class in Rust Belt states like Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin share the same concerns as the voting block which ensured that Britain left the European Union to the surprise of the world.
Arguing that Mitt Romney lost by 64 electoral votes — the exact total number in Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin — he concluded that “all [Donald Trump] has to do is win those 4 states.”
“People are in denial on this one but the chance of him winning is really, really good.”
