Democrat presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders has avoided personal attacks on his campaign rival, Hillary Clinton. But Sanders’ wife, Jane, didn’t conceal her desire for the investigation into Clinton’s burgeoning email scandal to unfold a little faster.
Senator Sanders has refrained from attacking Clinton on the email scandal for which she is under investigation.
“How often have I talked about Hillary Clinton’s emails?” Sanders asked in April. “Not one word. How often have I talked about the Clinton Foundation fundraising?” Sanders has strongly criticized Clinton’s ties to Wall Street and the fossil fuels industry.
The FBI is investigating Clinton’s use of an unsecure, home server for email communication while she served as Secretary of State. The State Department has determined 22 emails on her server were classified “Top Secret” or higher.
Jane Sanders said, while being interviewed on Fox Business, that she wished the probe would come to an end, but also stated her husband’s campaign did not want to comment on the process underway or politicize it.
“What we said right from the beginning … right after the debate, where he said ‘enough of your damn emails,’ he also said, there’s a process,” Sanders said. “We want to let it go through without politicizing it and then we’ll find out what the situation is. And that’s how we still feel.”
“I mean, it would be nice if the FBI moved it along, but…”
Senator Sanders trails Clinton by a margin too wide to close. He has already begun laying off staff, signaling he knows he cannot take the nomination from her.
Pundits have speculated the reason Senator Sanders has not withdrawn from the race and endorsed Clinton is because he’s hoping for the FBI to drop a bombshell that would eliminate her from contention.
Attorney General Loretta Lynch and FBI Director James Comey have insisted on letting the process follow its thorough, due course.
Comey indicated a resolution may be possible after the Democrat National Convention in July.
