A Florida teen lived to tell her terrifying tale of climbing up a tree to escape the jaws of an 11-foot alligator thanks to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputy who took out the scaly giant with a single gunshot.
Witnesses say the girl was rafting at Alexander Springs when she noticed the massive gator swimming near her. She promptly swam to shore in an attempt to get as far away from the animal as possible, but it began pursuing her. When she reached shore she noticed that the alligator picked up speed and began to chase her, so she climbed a tree for safety.
Now, alligators can’t really climb, but the giant reptile reportedly circled the tree and hissed at the girl while her mom called 911.
“My daughter is stuck in a fricking tree and there are gators surrounding her,” she told 911, according to CBS news. “We can’t get her out. She’s just 15! Oh, my God. Please hurry! Please hurry!”
When first responders arrived, the alligator began to hiss at them and refused to back off. So they made the command decision to shoot it with an AR-15.
