Comedian Tim Allen mocks ABC after they canceled “Last Man Standing” in a teaser for the newly revived show’s seventh season on Fox.
The video opens with Tim Allen and Nancy Travis reprising their roles of Mike and Vanessa Baxter. They’re sitting around a campfire as Vanessa repeatedly says she can be a “fox.”
Allen’s Baxter responds, “I know somebody’s gonna be happy you said that three times.”
He then looks directly into the camera.
The joke clearly is a nod to the show’s revival by Fox; in the sitcom, Allen plays an old-school family man who must navigate an increasingly politically correct world. The decision by ABC to cancel the series raised many red flags among pop culture watchers, as the show was one of the network’s highest-rated sitcoms and had been airing for six seasons.
Many suspected the network ultimately did not want to be associated with a right-leaning sitcom in the age of Trump.
“Last Man Standing” will premiere its seventh season on its new network on Friday, September 28, at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
Allen said in an interview with Fox News that he looked forward to working on a show unconstrained by political correctness.
“I don’t want to be PC,” Allen said. “For all of us in the standup world, all of us, are seeing this and feeling this and it’s a little dangerous and uncomfortable that there is things you can’t say because they might hurt people’s feelings.”
