Perhaps the most galling example of complete lack of leadership by Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is his refusal to take responsibility for his departments utter failure during the Parkland shooting.
Today I sent the following letter to @FLGovScott Asking that he suspend Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel for incompetence and dereliction of duty. I was honored to be joined by 73 Republican colleagues. You can read the letter attached here. pic.twitter.com/exZVwGQ3DR

Israel refused to take responsibility for his deputies refusal to enter Stoneman Douglas High School and engage the suspect while he was murdering innocents. Take the poll:
That might have been the last straw for Florida lawmakers, who sent a letter Sunday afternoon to Gov. Rick Scott demanding the immediate removal of Israel from his duties.
The letter – signed by House Speaker Richard Corcoran and signed by 72 other Republican lawmakers, is a blow to the leftists in the state who have been defending him.
“The Florida Constitution gives you the power to suspend a sheriff for ‘malfeasance, misfeasance, neglect of duty [or] incompetence,” Corcoran wrote. “I am requesting that you immediately exercise this power and suspend Sheriff Scott Israel of Broward County for incompetence and neglect of duty.”
The letter not only addresses his deputies’ actions at Parkland school, but the department’s inability to confront shooter Nikolas Cruz during one of the many times they interacted with him.
“Sheriff Israel’s fundamental duty is to keep the peace and protect the citizens of Broward County,” Corcoran continued. “He has the power and responsibility to appoint highly qualified deputies and to ensure they receive state-of-the-art-training.”
“Sheriff Israel failed to maintain a culture of alertness, vigilance, and thoroughness amongst his deputies. Sheriff Israel failed to fulfill his duty to ensure that all of his deputies have the necessary active shooter tactical training. As a result of Sheriff Israel’s failures, students and teachers died.”
