Donald Trump Jr insisted his father’s vice presidential pick would not likely come until after the Republican convention in mid-July.
Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union, Trump, Jr, did outline some characteristics his father will be considering.
“I think there are a lot of viable candidates out there, and I think some of them could have been people that have run against us in this. I think my father’s been clear that he wants someone that has navigated the D.C. waterways a little more than he has to be in there.”
Speculation by others asserts that Trump, perhaps because he’s from the urban east coast, might look west.
South Carolina Lt. Gov Andre Bauer promoted that option. “I think you’re going to see something different. I think what he will do is he won’t go with the norm that you pick a battleground state and you pick somebody from that state or a rival candidate,” he said on CNN. “I think he’s going to say, ‘Who can help me get the job done?’ and I think he needs some balance, and I like Mary Fallin for that reason.”
Mary Fallin is the governor of Oklahoma.
Donald Trump tweeted his approval of the idea. “@AndreBauer Great job and advice on @CNN @jaketapper Thank you!”
A second solid candidate who has been put forward is Governor Susana Martinez of New Mexico. Martinez cuts across demographic and ethnic groups where Trump has been weak and she is a sharp conservative.
Take the poll: Of these two choices, Mary Fallin or Susana Martinez, who would you like as Trump’s running mate?
