Trump, who stunned the world by winning the White House, early Wednesday called election night a “beautiful and important evening.”

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton had led Trump by about 3 points in the national polling averages as Election Day dawned Tuesday. The Republican repeatedly insisted before his victory, however, that pollsters were misreading his support among voters.Trump’s success capped off a major night for the GOP, with the party keeping its majorities in both the House and Senate.
Tuesday’s election ended a long and at-times bitter 2016 race between Clinton and Trump over America’s future.
Trump, a political newcomer, cast himself as a change agent who would upend the establishment politics Clinton embodied.
