Our beloved 41st President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara Bush were both in the hospital Wednesday in Houston, according to CNN.

Bush spokesman Jim McGrath announced that the former president, 92, was in intensive care at Houston Methodist hospital on Saturday due to complications developing from pneumonia. Bush was reported to be responding well to treatment.
In further sad news, Barbara Bush also was admitted to the same hospital Wednesday morning after “experiencing fatigue and coughing,” McGrath announced.
George H.W. Bush, who served a single term as President from 1989 to 1993, has battled numerous health issues in the past few years. After Parkinson’s Disease left him unable to walk, he was hospitalized for shortness of breath in 2014 and broke the C2 vertebra in his neck during a fall at home in 2015.
Although he is a public figure, Bush remains a very private citizen, rarely making public remarks. On Jan. 10, he sent a letter to President-elect Donald Trump, apologizing in advance for not attending the upcoming inauguration.
Making it clear that neither age nor infirmity have weakened his sense of humor, he wrote, “Barbara and I are so sorry we can’t be there for your inauguration on Jan. 20. My doctor says if I sit outside in January, it likely will put me six feet under. Same for Barbara. So I guess we’re stuck in Texas.”
Always a class act, Bush added: “But we will be with you and the country in spirit. I want you to know that I wish you the very best as you begin this incredible journey of leading our great country. If I can ever be of help, please let me know.”
