“Run The Rock” It’s Official!
A campaign committee has formally filed to draft actor and former WWE wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for president of the United States of America.
The possibility of a presidential run by Johnson, 45, who made his name as WWE wrestler ‘The Rock,’ has been the subject of rumor for more than a year. Last year the actor told GQ magazine that he hadn’t ‘ruled out’ politics. Now the door is wide open.
“Run The Rock 2020”
“Run the Rock 2020,” the name of the official organization, was filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Sunday, according to FEC records.
The Daily Mail reported that the forms – which note that the committee is ‘NOT authorized’ by Johnson – were filed by Kenton Tilford of Wheeling, West Virginia, who said, ‘I’m just a private citizen unaffiliated with Mr Johnson, but I’ve talked with many who believe he can deliver the leadership America needs.’
When asked about Johnson’s party loyalty he added that Johnson’s affiliations – he was once a Republican, and is now registered independent – didn’t concern him. ‘Donald Trump was a liberal, a Democrat, and an independent at various times and now he’s governing as a reliable conservative Republican,’ he said. ‘What matters to me is Mr Johnson’s respect and advocacy for all Americans.’
Johnson has long joked about a White House bid, playing a buff Obama on “Saturday Night Live” and standing in front of podium labeled “The Rock Johnson 2020” on the show in May. But he revealed earlier this year that his run is “a real possibility.”
The actor spoke at the Republican National Convention in 2000 and attended the Democratic National Convention the same year. He has said that he is registered as an Independent.
