Bernie Sanders officially bowed out of the 2020 presidential race and endorsed Joe Biden in early April. Sanders has worked with Biden on policy issues since exiting the race.
However, Sanders’ campaign co-chair, Nina Turner seems to be much less enamored with Biden as the Democrat nominee for president.
In an interview with The Atlantic, Turner graphically expressed her disappointment in Biden. In stating how she feels about her choices for President, Turner said, “It’s like saying to somebody, ‘You have a bowl of shit in front of you, and all you’ve got to do is eat half of it instead of the whole thing.’ It’s still shit.”
It is not clear whether Turner still works for Sanders in any capacity since Sanders terminated his campaign.
The Atlantic cited a Gallup poll, which had President Trump’s approval rating at 38%. Harry Truman is the last president to win re-election in 1948 with an approval rating under 40%.
But the magazine went on to say not to count Trump down and out of the race.
Even with the jobless rate at 11%, the economy might improve just enough to give Trump a boost.
The polling could be wrong. Again!
Polls in 2016 had Trump losing to Clinton by no less than 4%, in some swing states by 6%, by 9% in others and a run-away in states like California. But she lost.
Another factor: Trump is a tireless and ruthless campaigner.
Trump will exploit and push policies to his advantage.
He recently appeared in the Rose Garden to formalize a plan to cap drug costs, especially insulin for diabetics. He also resurrected his coronavirus task-force briefings that were dropped a few months ago. Trump exploits each of these opportunities to lambaste Biden. And of course, he tweets unceasingly.
Biden has his owner foibles to bear.
Turner’s comments indicate the more progressive wing of the party may not readily jump on the Biden bandwagon. When the time comes to vote in November, some simply may opt not to eat “bowl of s***.”
