Riding the wave of a red-hot economy, President Trump’s approval rating is the highest of his presidency, a new poll out Sunday showed.
The New York Post reports,
Forty-four percent of Americans gave Trump a thumbs up for the way he’s handling his office, an increase of 5 percentage points since April and 2 percentage points more than his previous high of 42 percent in April 2017, the ABC News/Washington Post poll found.
But 53 percent said they disapprove.
But while the president gets high marks for his handling of the economy – 51 percent approve and 42 percent disapprove – he gets lower marks on the immigration – 57 percent disapprove – and taxes – 49 percent disapprove, as well as health care – 54 percent disapprove.
But when asked how much credit Trump deserves for economy, respondents were split, with 47 percent saying a “great deal or good amount” and 48 percent opting for “some or hardly any.”
Sixty-five percent said Trump “has acted in a way that’s unpresidential” and 28 percent said his behavior has been “fitting and proper.”
Still, 59 percent said Congress should not begin impeachment proceedings against Trump, while 37 percent say they should.
In a head-to-head matchup with the Democratic presidential candidates, Joe Biden leads Trump by 14 percentage points, Sen. Kamala Harris by 8, Sen. Elizabeth Warren by 7, Sen. Bernie Sanders by 6 and Mayor Pete Buttigieg by 4.
The survey polled 1,008 Americans by landline and cell phone between June 28 and July 1.
