A Saturday panel discussion on the Fox News show “Watters’ World” got more than a little heated when host Jesse Watters brought up a recent tweet made by President Donald Trump about NBA star LeBron James.
“Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made LeBron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!” the president recently tweeted.
The chief executive’s tweet was in response to an interview James did in which the basketball player — who just signed with the Los Angeles Lakers — said Trump was using sports to divide people in this country.
Political commentator Wendy Osefo (shown above, far right) on Saturday said the tweet was “borderline racist.”
“President Trump has called out by name … Colin Kaepernick, Stephen Curry and LeBron James,” Osefo said. “But he has never responded to criticism by [Greg] Popovich, he has never responded to Eminem …”
Watters countered that the president has criticized plenty of white people through his social media channels.
Conservative Anna Paulina, a fellow panelist (shown above, far left), then jumped in and tried bringing up the specific white people Trump has criticized. She and Osefo then began talking over each other — and descending into a personal screaming match.
Watters smartly ended the segment.
“This has now turned into something completely ridiculous — we’re unable to have a conversation, so I’m just going to go to the next segment, OK?” the Fox News host said.
That was just after Paulina shouted, “Why don’t you listen!” to Osefo — and Osefo screamed back, “Stop yelling!”
The segment is a perfect representation of where we are culturally as a country right now. Politics today has become too tribal for some. People need to spend more time listening — really listening — to each other.
