NBC’s shock cancellation of the third hour of “Today” has anchors shaking in their boots about further changes at 30 Rock.
Page Six exclusively revealed the 9 a.m. hour has been axed to create a spot for former Fox News star Megyn Kelly.

Now strong rumors are swirling that Kelly is being groomed to take over Savannah Guthrie’s anchor spot on the flagship show.
Kelly will first take over either the 9 a.m. hour from Tamron Hall and Al Roker, or will replace Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford at 10 a.m.
“If she takes over Hoda and Kathie Lee’s 10 a.m. hour, they will move to 9 a.m.,” an insider said.
We hear Hall could leave the network next month when her contract is up.
Roker will continue his 7-to-9 a.m. duties.
Kelly will start in September.
But, “The talent on ‘Today’ has been left in the dark, and no one knows why there’s such disruption when the show is doing so well,” an insider told us.
Another adds: “People are pissed. The third hour was beating every syndicated show across the board. They [NBC News chiefs] . . . bit off more than they can chew when they hired Megyn.”
Producers of “Today’s” 9 a.m. hour learned they were out on Friday morning, just 24 hours after Roker tweeted out that they’d beaten Kelly Ripa for seven weeks. He posted, “Congrats to our #TODAYsTake @TODAYshow 9am producers for producing the #1 morning show 7 weeks in a row!! @tamronhall and I are very blessed.”
But another source told us no one foresaw vet Roker being pushed aside as a host by Kelly. “Al has been slighted after all these years and proving himself on this hour. He was hopeful NBC would do the right thing,” a source said.
Meanwhile, another source added, “Savannah is upset. She’s not convinced that Megyn doesn’t want her job. She was told about them hiring her 30 minutes before they made the announcement.”
But NBC said earlier this month, “We just signed Savannah to a massive deal that is longer than Megyn’s. A lead anchor role at ‘Today’ isn’t part of the conversation for Megyn.”
