Tomi Lahren Trashes Prison Reform Bill: Sparks Bitter Debate With Conservatives

December 5, 2018 by Susan Jo

Fox Nation’s Tomi Lahren sparked a fiery debate when she declared that she was opposed to the bipartisan criminal justice reform bill being supported by President Trump.

BPR reports:

The conservative commentator locked horns on Twitter with 16 year-old CJ Pearson, was called out by former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik and launched into a bitter war of words after she tweeted her criticism of the FIRST STEP Act, the bipartisan bill that could ease prison sentences for those incarcerated at the federal level.

Lahren tweeted that she is “100% against” the bill which she said simply is “TRASH!”

I am 100% against the prison reform bill. I live in CA. I see what Props 47 and 57 have done to this state and I’ll tell ya this, they haven’t made me feel safer. Don’t rush in with your blinders on, America.

Kerik, the former police commissioner of the New York City Police Department, bluntly told Lahren he thought she was “smarter” in a tweet responding to her declaration.

Disappointed – thought you were smarter. I was part of the Giuliani team responsible for the most substantial reduction in violent crime/murder in our country‘s history. I support this bill totally. Next time, you may want to read the actual bill before commenting. https://t.co/wg9kSddyXd

And while Lahren did not reply to Kerik, she did engage in a back-and-forth debate with Pearson, the young conservative activist and writer.

I’m sorry, but locking up people for non-violent drug offenses isn’t really what a country $21 trillion in debt should be rushing to do.

You’re wrong on this, Tomi. Trust our President. https://t.co/PYZQrIsklw

Let’s talk about some of those offenses: Drug-related robberies involving assault w/dangerous weapon, using deadly weapon to assault a law-enforcement officer, assault resulting in substantial bodily injury to a spouse/child, violent carjacking, trafficking heroin and fentanyl. https://t.co/6C4pZuDJOd

“You’re getting worked up over nothing, sis,” Pearson fired back at Lahren.

These are all violent offenses.

The #FirstStepAct, and almost every criminal justice reform proposal, deals with non-violent drug offenses. You’re getting worked up over nothing, sis. https://t.co/YzfmJbSXsq
