President Donald Trump has attacked Democratic rival Joe Biden for his and his son’s involvement in the Ukraine, for Biden’s family receiving millions from Chinese sources suspected of having ties to the Chinese Communist Party, for his connections to the radical left, and especially for his age.
Trump’s most aggressive campaign ad to date emphasizes that his 77 year old rival is too old and mentally weak to be president. According to media tracking firm Advertising Analytics, Trump’s campaign has spent over $6.5 million in 12 states.
AARP board member Robert Blancato calls Trumps attacks “ageist” and asserts they do not belong in politics and could backfire on the President.
“Not everybody in the world can be a victim of racism, not everybody in the world can be a victim of sexism, but everybody has potential to be a victim of ageism,” he said, predicting that ads focusing on age would backfire on the Trump campaign. “When you get into ageism, I don’t know what base you’re appealing to.”
