According to the new campaign manager of political outsider Donald Trump, who has assailed the rampant corruption across politics – and especially in the Republican Party – the Trump campaign is now working with the leadership of that “corrupt” entity to unite it.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump hired longtime Washington insider and lobbyist, Paul Manafort, as his new campaign head. Manafort has developed a dubious reputation as a lobbyist, having had a range of less than auspicious clients including former Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos, Angolan guerrilla leader Jonas Savimbi, and ousted Ukrainian president and Putin ally Victor Yanukovych, among others.
Manafort deftly rationalized his roles with these clients in an interview on Fox News. But the bigger news flash was when he perhaps let it slip that the Trump campaign was working with the wise old guard of the Republican party.
Manafort was contrasting the Trump campaign with the Cruz campaign, which he stated was being a disruptor in an effort to hopefully win the nomination on a second or third or fourth vote at the convention.
Manafort said, “What we’re trying to do right now is work with the Mitch McConnells who we didn’t depose in Kentucky even though he won the election and we worked with him to put a unity slate together. We’re trying to bring the party together. That’s what…”
He was quickly interrupted by the interviewer, Chris Wallace, “Wait, because I think this is interesting. You’re saying that you’re working with the Senate majority leader, who to a lot of the grassroots is a symbol of the problem?”
Manafort responded, “We’re working with party officials and that was an example on Saturday where we could have – we won the state. We could have gone in there and tried to be disruptive, as Cruz does, in these states.”
Can The Donald possibly prevail?
He’s hired a political insider-lobbyist, who admits to plotting with the cronies of the inept and disingenuous Republican party!
Can Trump be the Boss and stay the course to the benefit of the American people or will he succumb to the pressure of the political machine in the end?
