President Donald Trump panned CNN as “fake news” in a tweet Tuesday evening and also congratulated Fox News for having the top ratings for Inauguration Day coverage.
Trump called CNN “fake news” in continuation of a comment he made at a press conference in early January, where he refused to take a question from CNN reporter Jim Acosta and said, “You are fake news.”
From The Daily Caller
While the feud between Trump and CNN is long-standing, this particular and ongoing spat is due to CNN’s decision to cover the unverified, 35-page dossier containing damaging information about Trump’s supposed scandalous activities in Russia. Unlike BuzzFeed, CNN did not publish the dossier in full, although it did cover the document’s existence and noted that it contained allegations that Russian operatives had “compromising personal and financial information” about Trump.
In the same tweet, he also praised Fox News for soaring to the height of cable ratings for its coverage of Inauguration Day and called the public “smart” for watching the right-leaning network.
Congratulations to @FoxNews for being number one in inauguration ratings. They were many times higher than FAKE NEWS @CNN – public is smart!
