President Trump on Tuesday slammed Democrats for holding up his attorney general nominee, hours after he fired the U.S. acting attorney general after she told government lawyers not to defend the newly imposed travel ban from seven majority-Muslim countries.
“When will the Democrats give us our Attorney General and rest of Cabinet! They should be ashamed of themselves! No wonder D.C. doesn’t work!” Mr. Trump tweeted.

“Nancy Pelosi and Fake Tears Chuck Schumer held a rally at the steps of The Supreme Court and mic did not work (a mess)-just like Dem party!” he also tweeted, referring to a rally Democrats held to protest the “extreme vetting” executive order Monday evening.
On Monday, Acting Attorney General Sally Yates instructed Department of Justice lawyers not to present arguments defending the order, which temporarily restricts travel from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Syria and Yemen, “unless and until I become convinced that it is appropriate to do so.”
Mr. Trump fired her several hours later and replaced her with Dana Boente, who had been serving as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to hold a vote Tuesday on the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions, who is Mr. Trump’s nominee to be the next attorney general.
