Donald Trump set the record straight Friday: He only jokingly commanded “get that baby out of here” at a Virginia rally – twice asserting “I love babies” and that “I don’t throw babies out.”
At a campaign event in Des Moines, Iowa, Trump blasted the media as “dishonest” for distorting what was merely said in jest.
“This was a beautiful baby, and a beautiful mother and the baby was crying,” Trump said. “And I jokingly said, ‘You know what, that’s okay, let the baby cry, we love babies.’ You know, something to that effect. We love babies.”
“Then after about two minutes, I said, ‘You know what, I’m going to counteract my order.’ Beautiful baby, if you take her outside, that’s not so bad. That was it. The whole place laughed, we had a good time,” Trump said.
But what got reported in the headlines was “Trump Throws Baby Out Of Arena,” the GOP presidential nominee complained.
“So dishonest,” he said. “I mean these are dishonest people. … You know how terrible that is, such a lie, and they know it’s a lie, and spread the word folks but they know it’s a lie.”
