Donald Trump jumped on Colin Powell’s recent dispute with Hillary Clinton on Monday as he attempted to paint her as untrustworthy and slammed her use of a private email server.
“Colin Powell just proved again how dishonest Hillary Clinton is after he busted her for trying to pin the email scandal on him – one more Hillary Clinton lie,” Trump said at a rally in Akron, Ohio.
Powell said this weekend Clinton’s campaign has been trying to use him to help justify her use of a private email server while serving as secretary of State.
Clinton told FBI investigators that Powell recommended to her that she use a private email account. But Powell disputed her account.
“Her people have been trying to pin it on me,” Powell, who was secretary of State under President George W. Bush, told People at an event in the Hamptons this weekend. “The truth is she was using [her email setup] for a year before I sent her a memo telling her what I did.”
Clinton has faced constant criticism from the Republican nominee for her email practices while serving as secretary of State, and Trump’s Monday attacks were fueled by the most recent developments.
