After much speculation, the meeting between former foes President-elect Donald Trump and 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney opened with glad-handing and ended with words of optimism.
Mr. Romney emerged from the one-hour meeting at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, saying they had “a very thorough and in-depth discussion.”
“We had a far reaching conversation with regards to the various theaters in the world where there are interests of the United States of real significance. We discussed those areas, and exchanged our views on those topics,” Mr. Romney told reporters.
The Washington Times reported,
His description of a discussion focused on foreign affairs reinforced speculation that Mr. Romney is under consideration for secretary of state in the Trump administration.
Mr. Romney said he appreciated the chance to speak with the president-elect.
“I look forward to the coming administration and the things that it’s going to be doing,” he said.
