Trump also joked about the tough pronunciation of Priebus’s “crazy name,” noting that no one could pronounce it correctly in the past.
From The Hill
“So we had 18 people running and we had Reince. And I said before, nobody knew how to pronounce his name, it’s a crazy name,” Trump said during the Inauguration Eve Dinner before giving examples of various mispronunciations.
“But Reince Priebus, now everybody pronounces his name right. He is a star and I knew that a long time ago. And he had a problem because he sort of liked me. He didn’t like me because of my personality, he thought I could win,” Trump added.
“Reince was taking tremendous abuse because he went through hell,” Trump continued. “He had to win because if he didn’t win, it was over.”
During his speech, the president-elect also praised the late conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly, who voiced her support for Trump from the early days of his presidential campaign.
“And I want to thank, by the way, Phyllis, because she went through hell. I am telling you Phyllis went through hell,” he said.
Trump then compared Schlafly to Priebus, while thanking him for his “unbelievable” leadership qualities.
“He is an unbelievable leader, he is an unbelievable talent, and he’s been my friend and he’s been with me from the beginning. So I want to thank Reince Priebus,” Trump said to applause from the crowd.
