Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has been accused of perpetuating sexism as per allegedly uncalled-for remarks he posted to Twitter this week about Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney.
“Rep. Liz Cheney, daughter of Dick Cheney, yesterday attacked ‘the fraud of socialism,’” Sanders tweeted Friday afternoon. “Really? I wasn’t aware that it was ‘socialism’ that lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and got us into a horrific war that we should never have started.”
Bizpac Review reports,
The allegations of lying about WMDs and getting America involved in a war were in reference not to Cheney but her father, who played a pivotal role in launching then-President George W. Bush’s Iraq War in 2003.
That Sanders tried to criticize Cheney by insulting her father did not sit well with many. What made the backlash against him rather unusual was that it came from both conservatives and liberals.
You know, it’s possible to loathe Cheney for hot politics without being a sexist asshat about it, boys.

Add sexist to the long long list of reasons you need to give your resignation Bernie-

I didn’t think this was possible, but now you are making defend Liz Cheney. How dare you blame a woman for what a man did. We are not responsible for what men do, ever. You are nothing but a sexist jerk. Mr “I’m too busy” showed us what he thinks of women every damn day.

Reducing a woman to the actions of a man is sexist. Family or not. She deserves criticism but based on what she said. Not her father.

Mighty sexist statement, coming out of the mouth of a liberal. What has D. Cheney to do with Rep. Liz Cheney. Looks like you bait and switch because socialism is a fraud, robbing from the doers and giving to the sitters!

Wow Bernie, who knew you would be exposed as a sexist.

Disgusting sexist statement made by Bernie Sanders about Liz Cheney! His real character is coming out! Devaluing women like Liz and allowing sexual harassment on his presidential campaign as well. NOT a “champion” to me! #sexist

The latter tweet by Rowina Rodrigue alluded to recent allegations that the Vermont senator’s 2016 presidential election campaign had been beset by sexual harassment and violence.
“More than two dozen women and men who worked on Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign are seeking a meeting with the senator and his top political advisers to ‘discuss the issue of sexual violence and harassment on the 2016 campaign, for the purpose of planning to mitigate the issue in the upcoming presidential cycle,’” Politico reported last weekend.
His animosity stemmed from a speech Cheney delivered on the House floor Thursday while nominating Kevin McCarthy to be speaker of the House.
During the speech, the Wyoming representative vowed that as speaker, McCarthy would fight against the “fraud of socialism” being perpetrated by the Democrat Party.
Listen to the whole speech below:
Though Cheney never mentioned Sanders by name — which makes sense since he’s certainly not the only socialist in the Democrat Party — the Vermont senator nevertheless took her remark personally. And Cheney, in turn, appeared to take Sanders jab at her father personally as well.
“Yes, @SenSanders, son of Eli Sanders, socialism is a fraud,”she tweeted in reply. “It steals power from the people & gives it to the government, crushes human freedom & initiative & devastates economies (ask the Venezuelans). BTW – Your Dick Cheney history is as defective as your economic policy.”
