A South Florida mayor created a firestorm among residents of her town because of a recent remark she made denigrating police and supporting the controversial Black Lives Matter movement.
After noticing a uniformed law enforcement officer at a grocery store she was patronizing, Stuart Mayor Eula Clarke reportedly asked if pig was being served that day.
From BizPac Review
The remark was made loud enough for the police officer to hear it, and he left the store upset.
Local NBC affiliate WPTV reporter Andrew Lofholim initially was unable to get Clarke to respond to the incident.
“So what happened on January the 11 involving a Stuart police officer?” he asked.
“Andrew, I told you I want to make a short statement to the public,” Clarke told him.
“Did you make reference to a pig in reference to a Stuart police officer?” he tried again.
“Again, I’m telling you that I support law enforcement,” she replied.
Clarke later referred to her remark as an “unfortunate incident.”
But it was all disgustingly clear as day to local police benevolent association president John Kazanjian.
“She looks at the officer and says, ‘What are we serving, pig today?’” Kazanjian said. “The poor guy walked out, you know, hurt. That’s coming from the mayor of the city?”
Kazanjian later received a written apology from Clarke.
“It’s a first step,” he told the station. “That’s just on paper. Anyone can write that. She needs to get with the men and women.”
Although there’s no indication that she apologized to the entire police force, Clarke claimed she did to the officer.
“I have met with him and I have expressed to him how sorry it is that this unfortunate event happened,” Clarke said.
She also told the station that she wants to put the incident behind her.
“It happened. That was something that happened. It’s done with. I want to move on. I want the officers to work for our community. I want them to believe in what I do as mayor. To believe in what they do for their jobs. I just want to make sure that they know I have their backs,” she said.
The story set folks on social media aflame, who saw it as a black-white issue and called for the mayor’s removal.

@johncardillo @WPTV Right. It’s about a mayor, who should be held accountable for her words. I know the area…her time would be better spent on its problems.
